Barbie Fairytopia

This cake was made for a four-year-old who loves all things Barbie, especially the fairies. I tried to keep the cake as close to the actual movie character and ended up using an actual Barbie instead of the usual doll pick. Normally, I don't use Barbies because their legs are too long for the cake. But this time, I took the legs off and voila! Barbie fits!

Wings, pedals and letters are fondant. Flowers are royal icing. And you can't really tell from the picture but the whole thing is pretty much drenched in sparkles.

Anonymous - It was actually rather difficult to get the legs off, much harder than when I was a kid! I had purchased the cheapest Barbie I could find so I wouldn't be out a lot of money if the legs broke. And unfortunately, one of them did break the hip joint as I tried to pull it off. I now use this doll exclusively for my cakes. The leg that didn't break was easy enough to reattach so it is possible to put it back together. There didn't seem to be a special trick to getting the legs off, just had to wobble it and keep pulling.

Hello! I just sent you an email regarding the Barbie cake posted here - but I have another question! Can you give me any tips on how to do the letters? I know you mentioned rolled fondant - just cut out or rolled into the letters I need? Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
