Noah's Ark

Every now and then, I make a cake that I just hate to give away. It pains me to know that it's going to be cut up and eaten, even if that's what a cake is for. Well, my first Noah's Ark cake was like that...I had to quickly leave the house after setting up the cake because I was already fighting the urge to yank off the hippos and run away.

See what I mean? Those hippos are just too cute! I didn't want to give all the girl animals pink bows (and eyelashes were beyond my skills - believe me, I tried) so the girl hippo is clutching a tiny pink rose in her mouth. I miss her.

But those giraffes gave me fits. The next time this cake is ordered, I am charging extra for giraffes!

This is the back of the cake. Maybe I've been watching too many Food Network cake challenges but I've started adding little personal touches to the backs of all my cakes.

The cakes are chocolate chocolate chip with a fudge filling. The ocean layer is frosted with buttercream. Animal occupants are all fondant. The ark is covered in marshmallow fondant. This was my first time using the marshmallow fondant and I think I am in love! Finally, a fondant that you don't have to peel off in order to enjoy the cake!

♥! How can an awesome cake like this even have a back? It deserves to be in the center of a room on a pedestal so that it might be admired from all angles.

word verification: mingn. "A mign is a small, fluffy rodent native to the islands of the in the South Pacific."

I LOVE this one. LOVE. Cute animals may be my new favorite. I just did a jungle cake for my sisters baby shower.

You really are the queen of cakes!!! I think I will hire you to give me lessons instead of going to a Wilton class :) I would have more fun learning from you!!!

That cake is SUPER cute. But I want to know more about this marshmallow fondant. Did you make it yourself?
